32nd Annual Hombres Virtual Circulo Announcement: Bringing Círculo Prayer Into Our Home Life
Saludos Hombres from the Círculo,
To acknowledge and maintain our yearly connection during a pandemic, the National Compadres Network will be hosting two virtual circulos with Maestros Jerry Tello and Isaac Cardenas that are scheduled during the weekends the Hombres Retiro would have taken place in Jolon, CA. We have found that sheltering in place may limit physical gathering, but we can utilize virtual platforms to connect while using our traditional Círculo process. Although not ideal, it may help us to continue our yearly prayer and focus on sustaining our healing journey until we can safely gather again. These pandemic induced changes will also help us to avoid placing our elders and hombres’ health at risk.
NCN will offer two virtual Círculos lead by our elders and fire keepers, Maestros Jerry Tello and Isaac Alvarez Cardenas, and will take place on the following dates and times:
- 1st Weekend: Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm PST
- 2nd Weekend: Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm PST
Each circle can accommodate 20 hombres. Our experience with virtual gathering has taught us that this number allows for participants to share, listen, and reflect during the Círculo. This year marks the 32nd Annual Hombres Retiro where men would have traveled to Mission San Antonio de Padua in Jolon, California to gather in ceremony, reconnect with our ancestral traditions, and strengthen our spirit. As part of maintaining the Retiro spirit, Maestro Isaac shared that this year offers us an opportunity to offer a manda (thankful sacrifice) by dedicating the time that we would have been spent attending the Hombres Retiro to focus on and strengthen the connection with people in our lives. In essence, bringing the Círculo into our casa. We invite you to share the traditions, your stories, and reflect on the experience of going to Jolon with your families, friends, and inner circles.
To acknowledge this commitment, the first 200 Hombres who maintain the retiro ceremony by inviting those they love into the circle in 2020, will receive the 32nd Annual Hombres Retiro t-shirt. By registering below, you are giving your palabra to the Círculo that you are honoring this commitment. Registration to receive a t-shirt will be based on a first come first served and will be closed by August 1st. Please expect to receive your t-shirt by September 21 to acknowledge and honor the fall solstice.
