The Healing Generations Institute Statewide Listening Tour
At the behest of The California Endowment (TCE), Healing Generations Institute (HGI) conducted a preliminary landscape analysis of the prevalence of Healing modalities, particularly, Healing Circles in schools and amongst school-aged children across the state of California over a seven month period in 2024.
In the form of focus groups in seven different locales, four in person and three virtually-four basic questions were asked. Additionally, an online statewide survey gathering quantitative data was used.
The questions asked were:
- What are some of your best practices in administering Healing modalities, particularly Healing circles in schools and community based organizations for school-aged children?
- What were the settings in which these practices were administered?
- What methods of evaluation were used to assess the level of effectiveness?
- What were the main obstacles noted in trying to institute and maintain the healing practices amongst school-aged children in both schools and community based organizations?
The findings, including the results of the statewide online survey were combined to create a seventy-nine page report that gives the first comprehensive picture of the prevalence and use of Healing circles in the state of California in schools and amongst school-aged children.
