Heriberto “Beto” Escamilla, Ph.D.
Dr. Heriberto (Beto) Escamilla Morales oversees NCN’s Evaluation and Data Systems Division and has designed NCN’s research and evaluation process and instruments integrating culture based effective methodologies, processes, and tools.
Prior to NCN and as a mental health consultant, he delivered direct clinical services through several community-based organizations and health centers in the San Diego area. From there he worked for Philliber Research Associates, a nationally recognized evaluation firm, implementing engagement and mobilization activities in over 30 communities throughout the United States. He has participated in the evaluation of several community and school-based health, crime and teen-pregnancy-prevention initiatives, as well as participated in the evaluation of multi-site projects and initiatives.
Beto has built upon his lifelong interest in non-Western spiritual and religious traditions including yoga, meditation, prayer and curanderismo by integrating such healing into mainstream psychological practice.
A former electrical design-draftsman with Stuart and Stevenson International, Beto received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology-San Diego in 1993. He has taught psychology, gerontology, substance abuse prevention, statistics and Chicano history classes at San Diego City College and United States University, and is a member of the Center for Integrative Psychology of Alliant University.
Beto is originally from Cadereyta Jimenez, Nuevo Leon Mexico, and raised in Houston Texas. Father to three and grandfather to five children, he currently lives in National City, CA.
