Alberto Herrera Jr.


Alberto Herrera Jr. immigrated from Zacatecas, Mexico with his parents and siblings, eventually settling in the Central Valley of California. Alberto is an educator, having over 27 years serving young people as a teacher, school administrator, and youth advocate/educator for the Kings Canyon Unified School District (California) and community-based youth services organizations. Alberto has advanced youth education through innovative and culturally-rooted activities including directing student services in collaboration with school social workers and counselors; planning, developing and implementing social-emotional counseling services; and collaborating with leaders of various district programs to support parent, student, and community engagement. Among the programs Alberto has implemented in the district are El Joven Noble, Girasol, and Cara y Corazon.

With a Single Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Northridge, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from California State University, Fresno and Bachelor’s Degree in History and Chicano Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Alberto has devoted his life to the education and advancement of youth and families in California’s Central Valley. Alberto is the proud father to Maya, Natali, and Isaac Herrera and is married to his lovely wife Meredith Herrera.
